Chaiwali Harlem has been lovingly hand embellished. Each corner has a nuance, a story, and an energy. Our stage is your stage. When you pause here to dine you are inspired, refreshed and restored. From ornate woodwork, to metal detailing, gold textures, animals, flowers, and historic brick there is much to immerse yourself in. We think food and design are perfect life partners.
Chai is comfort and camaraderie and the combination of Real Chai and Real food is the synthesis of a new tea culture. With “Chaiwali”, Anita Trehan has chosen this playful riff on the traditional "Chaiwala" - a male seller of tea, to symbolize the woman being the nurturer of the home. She wanted her everyday food to be romantic and sensory, served in well-designed spaces that reflect community and neighborhood. It is a coming together of many worlds, and a new tribe.
Turmeric, healing spices, vegetables, humane meats: our grandmothers did it, and so do we. Mindful of each: vegan, meat based, vegetarian, gluten or dairy sensitive...and if you can eat it all, we have it all.
